Volunteer FAQs
-
Take a look at our upcoming surf days. We usually post events one month in advance.
-
We have wetsuits for all of our volunteers. If you have your own wetsuit, that’s great too, feel free to bring it!
Booties? Optional if you have your own.
Surfboard? Leave your board at home. We have boogie boards and surfboards.
-
MeWater provides typical kids’ snacks and water. We recommend bringing some of your own snacks, too.
-
Yes, please. You just need to fill it out once to volunteer. Please download the form here, fill it out and email it to ann@mewaterfoundation.org or bring it with you to the day of the event.
-
Yes! If you’re comfortable in the water, you can help kids on the boogie boards (no surfing skills necessary). If you prefer to stay out of the water, we always need people to help on the beach, too.
-
We don’t turn any kids away. It depends on the day, but you can expect the kids to be anywhere from 5- to 20-year-olds.
-
The surf days are all about building community and having fun in the water. For many of the kids, it’s their first time getting in the ocean.
-
We will confirm the exact meeting spot when you sign up to volunteer. When you arrive on the day of the event, look out for our big white van, lots of boards, and the black MeWater flag with our logo.
-
Right now we only offer programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
-
We surf in foggy and cold conditions (welcome to San Francisco!). We’ve never had to cancel a surf day, but if there is severe weather, we will email you to cancel the event.
-
If you have wetsuits or boogie boards in good condition, please contact us. We’d be more than happy to take them!
